I went in one night. Came out five hours later with enough stories to fill a brown jug. Ordered a vodka soda and received a pint glass of vodka with a splash of soda. Was offered cocaine by a skinny Asian chick bartender wearing a loose fitting Steph Curry jersey as a top (no bra). There was an old man pedaling aimlessly on an exercise bike in the corner. We put coins down for the pool table but never got to play because we were threatened with Immediate Death by “Samson”, another bartender who was there playing pool on his night off. This was my own fault as I had been warned by the 60-ish fading hippie lady that “Samson” was “not to be trifled with” when we were smoking cigarettes outside. She was also a bartender who was just hanging out there on her night off. There was nothing but The Brown Jug for them!!!
Coda: a few months later I read on SFist that a man named “Samson” had been arrested at The Brown Jug for selling cocaine to an undercover cop. Back to Folsom, O billiards enthusiast!
Well done pieces. Enjoyed them very much. Spent a week out there probably in 08. Spent some time up at Spirit Rock. Had to be careful during Kinhin (walking meditation), mountain ions. Kinda takes mindfulness to a real basic level. Had an amazing time
Truth and beauty here. Meat for the bones of bohemian splendor.
Thank you kindly, Rob.
Ah the Tenderloin. Ever go to a bar called The Brown Jug?
I do remember that place...Cannot say if I ever actually went in or not. Right there on the corner- the dive bars in that area were wild...

Ha! I enjoyed reading that. I also read the report about the demise of The Brown Jug!
Sounds about right, and as a story could probably fit half a dozen bars on in that area...Never a dull moment in the 'Loin! Cheers, Bossa!
Did you live in SF? Or were you travelling? When was this?
I was living in SF for 7 months in 2015-16 and this was early April ‘16
