Selected Collage 2005-2025: Book Announcement
A monograph featuring twenty years of mixed media, assemblage and collage
Dear Friends,
I am excited to announce the publication of my very first monograph (that you can find here) on various themes surrounding collage; assemblage, mixed media, and paper collage works.
The book roughly focuses on works I made between the years 2005-2025. The hardcover book contains 300 pages and features over 200 works, as well as studio photographs, studio portraits, and extensive interviews conducted by my wife,
(the book’s editor, along with me). The interviews provide context for the cities I have lived and worked, the work’s influences and evolution, and some insight into my craft and lifestyle. The book also contains many full bleed photographs, as well as close up details of many works.Dimensions of the book: 11.1'' x 8.67''.
This coffee table style book also includes literary contributions by my brother,
, who has written a beautiful essay, Fundamental Concerns: Judson Vereen and Collage, which weaves collage and music with our own personal history as brothers. Stefan Vereen has also taken several of the photographs in the book. Also contributing to the literature is a passage by
, who provides some complimentary text towards collage, particularly in juxtaposition with Artificial Intelligence. To better visualize the images of this post, you may open them in a different tab by right-clicking.
I have provided an Introduction, an essay, A Brief History of Collage, as well as Nero’s Violin, a personal essay on art and life.
The book is organized by location:
New York City, New York
Newnan, Georgia
San Francisco, California
Los Angeles, California
Brasil (states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo)
This monograph is the first in-depth physical survey regarding my visual work as an artist. Works on paper, canvas, wood, as well as book covers, album art and three dimensional assemblage are all part of this extensive survey of mixed media works that spans over 20 years.
The book is live and available for order at judsonvereen.com/written
Personal Note: A book project of this kind does not come around very often. Although the works are mine, the book itself required the participation and support of many. I would be remiss if I did not extend and acknowledge a debt of gratitude to the folks who contributed and made the book possible:
Photographers featured in the book: Michael Duffy, Tyler Sharkey, Kevin Coffey

Wow! The book of collages is beautiful! I'm ready to make my own collages. It won't be of the same quality, but I hope it’s a fun process. Now I have some additional inspiration. I have some old art books and magazines from a thrift store. I'm excited about the possibilities. There's also a lot of emphasis on communicating through words on Substack. But, when I see posts like this I truly get excited! I like the colors and the shapes. Black and white is feeling dull.
São Loureçho— the eye emerging from the hand has me intrigued… it looks more like a bird taking flight or maybe it’s a ship on the water. I see it differently each time I look at it. I see a messenger or messages… I don’t know… It just delights me. I must confess that I don't always feel that way when I read posts. I might learn something new, but it doesn't always make me feel curious.
Congratulations on what looks like a gorgeous piece of work. Beautifully composed and executed.
